Today’s article is all about Email Marketing.

In my previous article I introduced video marketing and its significance in automating a sales process. If you missed this previous article, click here to catch up.

If video is the message…

…then email is the delivery machine for your message.

I remember when I first began incorporating Internet Marketing in my sales process. This was back when I was an Information Technology Consultant working with local small businesses.

I had been calling back this particular prospect for over 6 months.

Each time I’d call, he’d tell me to call him back the next month. Around the 6-month mark I called him. I thought, he’ll be ready to sign the contract this time….

Nope!

He put me off again!

When I respectfully hung up, trying hard not to lose my cool the whole conversation, I swore to myself that I was done with endless follow up calls.

I thought, there just has to be another way. A more automated way to follow up with prospects. And after sometime I stumbled into this remarkable technology called email autoresponders.

Email autoresponders are automated email messages that you can pre-write and schedule to broadcast to all your email contacts.

I deployed the email autoresponders as a weekly newsletter and it worked like gangbusters for me! For instance, after I met with a prospect for the first time I’d add them to my email newsletter.

Before long I was following up with hundreds of my prospects weekly with one email!

And soon… I was able to automate the whole ‘che-bang’ with a year of pre-written emails all set to broadcast the moment a new contact was added to my list.

That’s right! I automated my follow up process. No more wasting valuable time chasing prospects. I set up systems to do the hard work for me!

By the way, are you on the market for an email autoresponder provider? I recommend Aweber and Get Response for my clients on a budget.

Later, I became even more sophisticated and added monthly voice broadcasts to my follow up system.

Voice broadcasts are similar to email autoresponders except voice broadcasts are pre-recorded, mass voice messages.

If you’re looking for more sophisticated marketing automation software, I recommend Infusionsoft and ClickFunnels.

No. Marketing is not just about going door-to-door promoting your products and services.

Or worse…cold calling.

Or paying thousands of dollars for TV or radio commercials.

Now, with the help of the Internet, marketing can be fully automated and systematized to leverage your time, so you ultimately grow your business with less cost and hassles.

You can send emails to promote products, services and events but that’s just a start.

You can send emails to retain loyal clients, onboard them, answer support tickets, survey and hire potential employees and freelancers.

How will You Monetize Your Email List?

First: email marketing requires you to have a list of people who are scheduled to receive your emails

Second: you have to constantly collect new email addresses. Anyone that agrees to receive emails from you is a lead

You get leads when you offer them free lead attractors such as gift cards, coupons, newsletters, articles, e-books and other useful products that will benefit them.

• Once you have a regular email following, you can offer them good quality products and services

Be careful that your offers match the interests of your list or you’ll suffer mass unsubscribes.

For instance, if your list wants dog treats and you offer them cat nips, you’re in trouble. Your products and services have to be relevant to your email list.

The biggest challenge of email marketing is NOT being viewed as spam.

Make sure you give your email list an easy opt out.

When your emails are marked as spam, your emails will be completely blocked from the receivers’ virtual mail box.

It’s best practice to follow CAN SPAM compliance guidelines.

Typically, at the bottom of a sent email, you’ll let your subscribers know you comply with CAN SPAM with an unsubscribe link, using a phrase like the following:

[CAN-SPAM COMPLIANCE] If we reached you in error, or if you no longer wish to receive any further communication, please click the unsubscribe link.

It’s unlawful to not recognize CAN SPAM so most email service providers have the unsubscribe link built into their email system.
